CHALLENGE 1: Go Green For EcoMarines

EQUIPMENT:

Green clothing or accessories!

TIME NEEDED:

The whole day if possible

Step 1 - Pick a Day

Pick a date during to host your Go Green for EcoMarines dress up day!

For this day, your whole centre can dress up in green and bring in a gold coin donation. The donation can be put towards EcoMarines foundation or your own centre’s eco-projects.

Step 2 - Spread the Word!

During the lead up to your Go Green for EcoMarines day, make sure to promote the day to your centre and families.

You can get children to create posters to advertise the day. Or why not create advertising material out of rubbish or repurposed items?

Step 3 - Plan the Day

On the day, educators can plan some fun eco-activities to get your mini marines in the green spirit! Here are some ideas:

  • Creating a recycling station for your centre
  • Eco-art: what recycled items or rubbish items can kids use to create art?
  • Go on a nature walk in a nearby park or garden
  • Read an eco-themed story book

Step 4 - Submission

Take photos on the day of your sea of green! We would love to see what your school got up to so don’t forget to email us or tag us on social media. You can use the form below to send us some photos!

CHALLENGE 2: Green Gifting

EQUIPMENT:

Recycled materials (to craft into gifts – examples below)/ gift tags (provided below)

TIME NEEDED:

30 mins to play sorting card game – STEP 2

1 hour to create poster – STEP 3

Step 1 - Upcycling Gift-Making

The purpose of this challenge is to reuse unwanted items and create gifts to sell at a market stall on Go Green for EcoMarines Day! It’s a beautiful way to get the children creating cool, fun items and help them understand the resourcefulness of creating useable items from recycled waste items. Additionally, this activity will give them the opportunity to give back to their community – through selling their items the children can fundraise for a community organization they collectively wish to support.

We have provided instructions for potential gift ideas!

Step 2 - Get Gifting!

After making your amazing green gifts, decide with your Mini Marines who they might like to gift their creations to and why!

We have provided you with printable gift tags that you can attach to the items created. We recommend that you print the tags out onto recycled paper of course! You can fill them out detailing what the gift is and for who!

Step 3 - Submission

Send us photos of the upcycled gifts that the children have created! Send us pictures if you end of doing a market stall to sell these gifting items too.

The winners of this competition will receive an EcoMarines prize pack + a visit from an EcoMarines staff member + invitations to our end-of-year event ‘The Wave’!
